Role: Planning Consultant – Certified Financial Planner (CFP)
Location: Minneapolis, MN – Hybrid
Duration: 12-Month Contract-to-Hire
Start Date: December 2026 / ASAP
Required Certification: Active CFP Designation
Rate: $120/hour W2
Position Overview
Our client, a leading financial services organization supporting independent broker-dealers and financial advisory firms, is seeking a Planning Consultant with an active Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation to support its growing financial planning services.
This opportunity is part of an expanding service that helps independent financial advisors deliver comprehensive financial plans to their clients. The Planning Consultant will work directly with financial advisors to gather and clarify financial information, enter data into financial planning software, and prepare financial plans for advisor review and use.
This is a financial planning support role, not a traditional financial advisor or sales position. The individual will not manage a book of business, provide investment or financial advice, make recommendations, or work directly with end investors.
The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, service-focused, and comfortable working with financial planning technology. Our client is open to varying levels of experience, including early-career CFP professionals and seasoned financial planning professionals seeking a position focused on planning support rather than direct client advising.
The position also offers the opportunity to contribute to the continued development of a growing financial planning service, including helping establish and improve processes as the team expands.
Key Responsibilities
- Gather and review financial information provided by independent financial advisors to support the development of comprehensive financial plans.
- Enter financial and client data accurately into financial planning software to prepare financial plans.
- Review submitted information for completeness and accuracy, following up with financial advisors to obtain clarification or additional information as needed.
- Generate and prepare financial planning reports and deliverables for advisor review and use.
- Collaborate closely with the Financial Planning team to ensure timely and accurate completion of planning requests.
- As experience and familiarity with the service grow, participate in advisor coaching sessions to review completed plans and help advisors understand how to walk their clients through the information.
- Provide responsive, professional, and high-quality service to financial advisors.
- Assist with organizing, documenting, and improving workflows and processes as the financial planning service continues to grow.
- Manage multiple planning requests while maintaining accuracy, organization, and attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
Important: This position does not involve providing financial or investment recommendations to advisors or end clients. All interaction is with financial advisors rather than end investors.

- Strong organizational and time management skills, including the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Service-oriented mindset and a genuine interest in supporting financial advisors.
- Ability to work collaboratively, learn new processes, and adapt within a growing service offering.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with MoneyGuide financial planning software.
- Experience supporting financial advisors through financial plan preparation, coordination, or related planning support activities.
