Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Senior Program Manager with deep Epic expertise and a strong understanding of healthcare interoperability, payer-provider connectivity, and clinical data exchange to lead and advance a large healthcare organization's Epic Payer Platform (EPP) program.
This is a highly visible, strategic and technical leadership role responsible for expanding Epic Payer Platform capabilities across healthcare provider organizations, optimizing existing functionality, and driving new implementations and integrations.
The ideal candidate brings more than traditional program management experience. We need someone who understands Epic functionality, can evaluate technical capabilities and connectivity challenges, and can proactively recommend solutions and strategic priorities. This individual will serve as a key liaison between Epic, healthcare provider organizations, business leadership, and internal IT teams.
The organization currently has multiple provider groups connected to its Epic Payer Platform and is focused on expanding functionality, improving adoption, and maximizing the value of its provider connectivity initiatives.
Required Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Healthcare Administration, Business, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- 8+ years of professional experience, including significant experience leading complex healthcare technology programs or initiatives.
- Strong, demonstrated working knowledge of Epic, including platform functionality, capabilities, implementations, and integrations.
- Experience supporting healthcare interoperability, Health Information Exchange (HIE), provider connectivity, or clinical data exchange initiatives.
- Demonstrated experience leading complex, cross-functional programs involving business stakeholders, IT teams, external vendors, and healthcare organizations.
- Ability to evaluate technical capabilities, identify gaps, prioritize improvements, and independently drive program strategy and execution.
- Strong technical aptitude with the ability to collaborate effectively with Epic analysts, developers, integration specialists, and infrastructure teams.
- Experience managing program risks, dependencies, governance, reporting, and multiple concurrent workstreams.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, stakeholder management, and leadership skills, with the ability to translate between technical and nontechnical audiences.
Preferred Qualifications - Direct experience implementing, supporting, or expanding Epic Payer Platform (EPP) capabilities.
- Epic experience within a health insurance payer organization or involving payer-provider integrations.
- Hands-on experience with Epic build, configuration, or technical implementation.
- Experience supporting Epic interoperability initiatives such as Care Gap Exchange.
- Understanding of healthcare quality reporting, risk adjustment, care management, or related payer/provider business processes.
- Experience working directly with healthcare provider organizations to assess Epic capabilities, coordinate connectivity, and optimize functionality.
- Previous Epic certification or accreditation (active certification is not required).
- Experience leading Epic vendor engagements and coordinating technical resources across multiple organizations.
Key Responsibilities Epic Payer Platform Leadership & Strategy - Lead the end-to-end implementation, expansion, and optimization of Epic Payer Platform capabilities across healthcare provider organizations.
- Evaluate existing Epic functionality, identify opportunities for improvement, and recommend strategic priorities for new capabilities and integrations.
- Develop and manage program roadmaps, implementation priorities, milestones, dependencies, and deliverables.
- Proactively identify risks, technical challenges, and opportunities, driving solutions and decisions with minimal oversight.
- Provide strategic guidance to business leadership regarding Epic capabilities, implementation opportunities, and resource needs.
- Establish program governance, performance metrics, and reporting to measure program success and value delivered to provider partners.
Epic Functionality & Provider Connectivity - Partner with healthcare provider organizations to assess their Epic environments, versions, available functionality, and integration capabilities.
- Lead efforts to activate, expand, and optimize Epic functionality across existing and new provider connections.
- Support healthcare interoperability initiatives, including Health Information Exchange (HIE), clinical data exchange, and payer-provider integrations.
- Identify gaps in existing capabilities and coordinate implementation of new functionality, including initiatives such as Care Gap Exchange.
- Collaborate with provider organizations to support Epic functionality adoption, education, training, and effective utilization.
- Support Epic platform configuration and troubleshooting in partnership with technical analysts and vendor resources.
Technical & Cross-Functional Collaboration - Serve as a primary liaison between Epic, healthcare providers, business stakeholders, and internal technology teams.
- Coordinate Epic vendor resources and collaborate with internal technical teams to support successful program delivery.
- Work directly within the Epic environment to understand platform capabilities, investigate issues, and support implementation activities.
- Partner with IT infrastructure, integration, and technical teams to troubleshoot connectivity challenges and implement solutions.
- Translate complex technical requirements and issues into actionable recommendations for business stakeholders.
- Coordinate technical resources and priorities across multiple concurrent Epic initiatives.
Ideal Candidate The strongest candidate will combine senior-level program leadership with substantial Epic technical and functional expertise. They will have a proven ability to independently lead complex healthcare technology initiatives, understand Epic capabilities and interoperability challenges, and recommend strategic improvements rather than simply execute predefined project plans.
This position is particularly well-suited for someone who has led Epic-related provider connectivity, interoperability, or payer integration programs and is comfortable operating at the intersection of healthcare business strategy and technology.
Work Arrangement & Employment Details This position follows a hybrid schedule, with onsite work expected Tuesday through Thursday in Minnetonka, MN.
The position is initially structured as a contract engagement with a strong likelihood of converting to a full-time position after approximately 1,040 hours (but this is not a guarantee). Candidates should be interested in a long-term opportunity.
