Job Description

Role: Network Engineer

Duration: ASAP - 9/16/2026

Location: Onsite in Eau Claire, WI

Rate: $61.09/hour W2


We are seeking a hands-on Network Engineer to design, configure, and maintain enterprise switching and routing infrastructure. This role requires someone who can operate independently on well-defined initiatives while remaining a strong collaborator within a broader engineering team.


Core Technical Requirements:

  • A self-directed "doer" — someone who doesn't need hand-holding to execute standard installs and configurations, but who also communicates proactively, documents thoroughly, and integrates well with a team-based engineering environment.

Networking Fundamentals:

  • Strong working knowledge of the OSI model, specifically Layers 1–3 (Physical, Data Link, Network)
  • Ability to troubleshoot and reason about network issues at the appropriate OSI layer

Hardware & Platform Experience:

  • Hands-on experience configuring and installing Cisco switches — Catalyst C9000 series
  • Hands-on experience configuring and installing Cisco routers — Catalyst C8000 series
  • Experience deploying equipment at both the access layer and distribution layer

Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills

  • MEC (Multi-Chassis EtherChannel) configuration experience
  • SD-WAN deployment or administration experience

Job Responsibilities:

  • Under general supervision, participates in decisions on technical direction, architecture design, and product selection for the enterprise telecom/data network.
  • Assists with the deployment of telecom/network technology.
  • Exercises independent judgment.
  • Under general direction works on complex technical issues.
  • Provides input to short and long-term section strategy and budget planning.
  • May be required to perform some of the duties of Telecom/Network Specialist.
  • Receptive to new ideas and to learning new technologies.
  • Plans and leads small projects and performs project management coordinating the efforts of internal and external staff with the customer and business needs.
  • On occasion oversees projects and tasks assigned to project team members and may be asked to provide input to their evaluations.
  • Occasionally works under stressful conditions, participating in implementations and troubleshooting efforts that may have significant patient care and/or financial impact to the organization.
  • May be asked to represent Telecommunications and Networks to committees.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Expert knowledge of telecom/network concepts and 7-layer OSI model is required.
  • Knowledge of basic telecom/network management and monitoring tools.
  • Basic understanding of desktop and server operating systems is desirable.
  • Must be able to work with minimum direction and able to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Must be customer focused and possess excellent communications and interpersonal skills to interact with a variety of personnel at various levels within and outside the institution.
  • Good organizational and time management skills are required to handle the workload and track the various projects going on simultaneously.
  • Solid analytical skills are also a necessity.

Required Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline with a minimum of two (2) years of professional technical work experience. OR
  • Associate’s degree with a minimum of four (4) years of professional technical work experience. OR
  • Minimum of (6) years professional technical work experience required for individuals without a degree.
