Job Description
Role: Senior Software Engineer (Enterprise Integration & Data Exchange) Location: Hybrid, Cottage Grove, MN area Compensation: $63-$71/hour W2 Employment Type: Contract-to-Hire Preference: Local candidates who can regularly collaborate onsite with business and technical teams
Position Summary We're seeking a Senior Software Engineer to help build and scale a new enterprise data exchange capability for a large, enterprise organization. This role will play a critical part in designing and developing the APIs, integration services, and reusable patterns that enable secure, scalable data sharing between internal systems and external business partners. This is more than a traditional development role. You'll join a newly forming team responsible for establishing foundational integration standards, architecture patterns, and best practices that will influence future enterprise integration initiatives. The initial focus is Azure-based integration development, but success in this role requires strong integration fundamentals and the ability to adapt as technologies and platform strategies evolve. The ideal candidate combines deep hands-on engineering expertise with solution-oriented thinking, strong stakeholder communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in an environment where new patterns and standards are still being defined.
Key Responsibilities - Design, develop, and support Azure-hosted APIs, integration services, and data exchange capabilities.
- Create scalable, reusable integration patterns that can support multiple business partners and use cases rather than one-off solutions.
- Develop and maintain RESTful APIs and enterprise integration services using modern cloud-native development approaches.
- Evaluate and recommend appropriate integration patterns, including APIs, messaging, event-driven architectures, and batch data movement solutions.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders, architects, data teams, and integration partners to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
- Partner with existing integration teams to understand the current enterprise integration landscape and identify opportunities for modernization.
- Contribute to integration standards, governance practices, and architectural guidelines for future enterprise initiatives.
- Help establish development tooling, deployment processes, and operational practices supporting Azure integration development.
- Participate in CI/CD, DevOps, testing, and deployment activities to ensure reliable and maintainable solutions.
- Support ongoing evolution of integration platforms and technologies while maintaining a focus on sound engineering principles.
Required Qualifications - Strong experience designing and developing enterprise integrations and APIs.
- Hands-on experience with Azure integration development, including Azure Functions and other Azure-native services.
- Experience building and consuming REST APIs in enterprise environments.
- Strong understanding of integration architecture, API design principles, and distributed system integration patterns.
- Experience with Azure messaging and eventing technologies such as Azure Service Bus, Event Hubs, or similar solutions.
- Experience integrating enterprise applications across internal and external systems.
- Proficiency with Visual Studio and/or VS Code development environments.
- Experience with Python scripting.
- Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and cloud application deployment.
- Experience working in large-scale enterprise environments.
- Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and business stakeholders.
- Proven ability to work independently, navigate ambiguity, and drive solutions with limited oversight.
Preferred Qualifications - Experience with MuleSoft, Boomi, or other enterprise integration platforms.
- Experience building API gateways and reusable service layers.
- Exposure to event-driven architectures and messaging technologies such as Kafka, ActiveMQ, Azure Event Hubs, or Service Bus.
- Experience integrating CRM, sales, marketing, finance, or customer-facing platforms.
- Experience with Snowflake, Fivetran, or other ETL/data movement technologies.
- Experience helping define engineering standards, governance models, or reusable integration frameworks.
- Familiarity with multiple integration approaches, including APIs, messaging, ETL, replication, and batch processing patterns.
