Job Description

Role: Business Analyst / Project Manager (BA/PM) – Healthcare Systems (Mid-Level)

Start: Late April/Early May

Duration: 6-12 month contract

Location: Bloomington, MN (Flexible hybrid)

Rate: up to $50/hour W2

Overview

Our healthcare client is seeking a hands-on, mid-level BA/PM to support two active initiatives led by a hiring manager who is currently managing both efforts. This role is ideal for someone who is organized, proactive, and execution-focused and who enjoys keeping teams on track, translating needs into clear requirements, and ensuring stakeholders are informed and aligned.

You will split time across:

  1. Underwriting System Migration
  2. Self-Insured Billing System Modernization

This position will focus on status reporting, meeting facilitation and notes, requirements gathering/documentation, and day-to-day project coordination, with close interaction between business partners and IT teams.

Key Responsibilities

Project Management Support (Execution & Coordination)

  • Own and drive project cadence: schedule meetings, send agendas, facilitate working sessions, capture action items, and follow up to closure.
  • Produce weekly status reports (RAID log, milestones, dependencies, decisions) for leadership and project stakeholders.
  • Maintain core project artifacts: project plans, timelines, meeting notes, action logs, decision logs, and risk/issue trackers.
  • Coordinate across business, IT, and vendor teams, ensuring technical and functional workstreams remain aligned.
  • Support change management activities such as stakeholder updates, communications drafts, and training coordination (as needed).

Business Analysis (Requirements & Documentation)

  • Conduct discovery with SMEs to understand current state workflows and define future state requirements.
  • Elicit, document, and manage requirements using appropriate formats (e.g., user stories with acceptance criteria, process flows, BRDs/FRDs).
  • Translate business needs into clear, testable requirements that can be consumed by technical teams.
  • Support prioritization by organizing requirements into a backlog, partnering with business and IT leads to clarify scope and dependencies.
  • Assist with testing efforts: coordinate UAT, document test scenarios, track defects, and confirm outcomes.

IT Collaboration & Technical Understanding

  • Demonstrate a working understanding of IT concepts and terminology, including system integrations, data flows, environments (dev/test/prod), APIs, batch jobs, defects, deployments, and release cycles.
  • Act as a liaison between business stakeholders and IT by asking the right questions, clarifying technical impacts, and ensuring shared understanding.
  • Support IT-led activities such as system migrations, data validation, testing cycles, cutover readiness, and post-go-live stabilization.

Healthcare Domain Project Focus (Nice-to-Have Exposure)

  • Support business and technical activities related to:
    • Underwriting workflows and system migration
    • Self-insured billing modernization, including billing workflows, eligibility, invoicing, reconciliation, and reporting needs

Required Qualifications

  • 3+ of experience in Business Analysis, Project Coordination, or hybrid BA/PM roles.
  • Experience supporting IT-driven initiatives such as system migrations, enhancements, or modernizations.
  • Working knowledge of IT terminology and delivery concepts, with the ability to collaborate effectively with developers, architects, QA, and infrastructure teams.
  • Demonstrated experience with:
    • Meeting facilitation, action-item tracking, and executive-ready status reporting
    • Requirements gathering and documentation (user stories, process flows, acceptance criteria)
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage details across multiple workstreams.
  • Clear, concise communicator—comfortable working with both business and technical stakeholders.
  • “Get it done” mindset: proactive, dependable, and willing to take on what the project needs.

Preferred / Nice-to-Have

  • Experience in healthcare payer, benefits administration, or insurance operations.
  • Exposure to underwriting platforms, policy administration, or pricing/rating workflows.
  • Exposure to self-insured billing systems or employer group billing processes.
  • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum or hybrid delivery models and tools such as Jira, Azure DevOps, Smartsheet, or MS Project.
  • Experience supporting UAT, data migration validation, and go-live activities.

Success in This Role Looks Like…

  • Stakeholders consistently receive clear, timely status updates and understand technical and business impacts.
  • Business and IT teams stay aligned because requirements, decisions, and dependencies are clearly documented.
  • The PM lead gains meaningful bandwidth because this role independently drives coordination, documentation, and follow-through.
