Location: Hybrid in Bloomington, MN

Type: Contract - 6 months with potential to extend (TBD on this)

Rate: $59.40 - $68.31/hour W2, dependent on skills and qualifications

Position Summary

This role supports multiple concurrent projects that require robust data ingestion, data analysis, and process orchestration across the Microsoft ecosystem. The ideal candidate is a hands-on problem solver—someone who can dig into unfamiliar data sources, figure things out quickly, and deliver high‑quality, business-ready datasets and insights.

As part of the Information Systems team, this role focuses on transforming raw or vendor-supplied data into curated, reliable datasets that support analytics, reporting, and operational decision-making. The Senior Data Analyst & Data Ingestion Specialist will work heavily within the Microsoft Power Platform, leveraging tools such as Power BI, Power Automate, Power Apps, Dataverse, and supporting data services to design ingestion pipelines, perform analysis, and enable automated workflows.

The position requires close collaboration with stakeholders to understand data needs, translate requirements into actionable solutions, and ensure data quality, governance, and consistency across the environment.

Key Responsibilities

Data Ingestion & Integration

  • Build, maintain, and optimize data ingestion workflows using Power Automate, Power Platform connectors, Dataverse, SQL, and related tools.
  • Ingest, cleanse, and transform data from various internal systems, external vendors, APIs, and files.
  • Create consolidated, business-ready datasets to support analytics and reporting.
  • Apply data validation, deduplication, and data quality rules to ensure reliable output.
  • Troubleshoot ingestion issues and identify opportunities for automation or efficiency improvements.

Data Analysis & Business Intelligence

  • Profile and analyze data to understand structure, quality, and key relationships.
  • Perform exploratory data analysis (EDA) to identify trends, anomalies, and drivers.
  • Develop and maintain dashboards, visualizations, and reports using Power BI.
  • Create optimized data models for self-service analytics and operational reporting.
  • Translate business questions into clear analytical approaches and deliver actionable insights.

Process Orchestration & Automation

  • Build and maintain workflows using Power Automate to support data processing, validation, and delivery.
  • Integrate data and processes across Power Platform, SQL environments, APIs, and other enterprise tools.
  • Implement monitoring and alerts to ensure data pipeline reliability and timely updates.

Stakeholder Engagement & Business Support

  • Partner with business users, data stewards, IT teams, and leaders to gather requirements and deliver tailored analytics solutions.
  • Present findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Lead working sessions, run demos, provide training, and promote adoption of analytics tools and self-service capabilities.

Data Governance & Quality

  • Ensure datasets meet enterprise data governance, compliance, and security requirements.
  • Maintain documentation for ingestion workflows, data models, validation rules, and reporting solutions.
  • Continuously improve data quality and integrity across the data lifecycle.

Required Qualifications

  • 4+ years of experience in data analysis, data ingestion, analytics engineering, or BI development.
  • Strong proficiency with the Microsoft Power Platform, especially:
    • Power BI (DAX, modeling, visualization)
    • Power Automate (flows, connectors, automation)
    • Dataverse or similar relational storage
  • Strong SQL skills for data extraction, transformation, and modeling.
  • Experience working with APIs, flat files, and third-party data sources.
  • Hands-on experience with data cleansing, profiling, and transformation.
  • Ability to work independently, troubleshoot issues, and figure things out in ambiguous situations.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills.
  • Experience gathering business requirements and converting them into technical solutions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with master data management principles or tools.
  • Exposure to geospatial data or GIS concepts.
  • Familiarity with Python, Spark, or similar tools (nice to have, not required).
  • Advanced Excel skills for additional analysis.
  • Experience working in environments with strong governance, privacy, or regulatory requirements.
